Between 2021 and 2023, Sylvain Gelewski was involved in a transdisciplinary project, where his paintings and texts become part of performative interventions, sometimes outside traditional exhibition spaces.
Doppelganger Collective is a group of artists born from the intersections between performance, dance, music, painting, photography, installation, video and writing. Its title plays with notions of duality, mimicry, synonyms, twinship, and lookalikes. It raises the questions of visible physical resemblance, as well as invisible character resemblance.
In its projects, the collective tackles questions of political and social responsibility, ungendered identity in Western society and in the myths of the advertising world, freedom of expression or censorship, interdisciplinarity in culture, the alienation of artistic work and liminality.
